    You need new drill bits or you need to sharpen them. That took way too long to get through just wood

    Amazing how they never use levels to make sure boards are spaced evenly throughout...but it looks nice, I'm just tickey i check everything twice

      You want the boards to follow the undulation of the ground, which isn’t level. I use a 6” increment to space between boards so the spacing is always the same. But a level fence can’t go uphill.

    Hello Bart How do you determined the location of the ledger board, you say you measured it below your window! By how many feet or inches. Thanks Bart.

    • @jaydu-sauzay4276
      @jaydu-sauzay4276 Рік тому

      The top of it is going to be the same height as your floor maybe an inch below. Measure inside from the floor to the underside of the floor above (You'll have to get into the ceiling). Then use that same measurement on the outside of the wall. Or just look above the ceiling at the perimeter wall and see where that ledger board is.

    Hey brother. First of all, great videos. How tall is are the 6x6 posts? I want to build a 10’x22’ pergola. Would 3 posts be enough to hold it up?

    • @jaydu-sauzay4276
      @jaydu-sauzay4276 Рік тому

      Hey William. I just set up a string line and made sure all the posts were touching the string. Measure off the wall on both ends to make sure the string is the same distance off the wall the entire length, drive a couple stakes in the ground and pull a string tight.

      The porch? I built a roof over it so was not really concerned about water intrusion where porch meets the house. Rafters for porch roof sat on top of a ledger on top of existing roof at outside wall of house. End product ua-cam.com/users/shorts5_com-Zv9R4?feature=share

    If a person has to attach to 2x4s 1. Link to a stud finder that works through stucco, please. 2. A half inch bolt hole through a 1.5 inch wide piece of wood seems to be risky, no?

    • @andrewg3454
      @andrewg3454 3 роки тому

      Obviously the bolt there is longer than a half inch, I heard him say 5' and it looked like 5'. No one is that silly. As for the stud finder I never use them personally but if I know the area that is going to be covered I could always drill a test hole to see if a stud is found, then go 16' from there, but double checking to make sure its catching them all as you go. Patch the holes after with caulking or something.

      The 2x4 ribbon which the floor truss connect to is on edge. There is 3½" horizontally along the entirety of the house side to side and then foor trusses with 3½" vertically probably 18" tall and likely 16oc or 19²/¹⁰oc and also double 2x6 wall plate above and below the floor truss.

    Thanks for sharing your video. I am a DIYer and have a similar project for a 18” deck height. You mentioned using stud finder to find the stud inside the stucco wall. Have you tried it? Which stud finder do you recommend? Some people say stud finders do not effectively detect studs because of the wire mesh, etc. Thanks

    • @jiggidaboo
      @jiggidaboo 4 роки тому

      Hey bud. Honestly my stud finder didn't work through the stucco due to the metal screen, but luckily my rim joist lined up exactly where I needed the floor of the deck to fall. I would recommend using the stud finder inside the house through sheetrock, find your stud spacing, which may be 16" or 18" on center then apply that spacing to the outside of the house. Drill a small pilot hole and check to make sure you're hitting wood with each new stud. You can always put a little stucco patch in the pilot hole if you miss.

    • @jiggidaboo
      @jiggidaboo 4 роки тому

      Yes. This is very good practice if you can afford the extra lumber. If not, you'll just have to plan to spend a couple hours each year reattaching a few boards. In my experience, in 6000', using rough sawn, untreated lumber, about 20 boards pop off each year.

    • @jiggidaboo

      You may need to cut a small hole in the ceiling inside your house and measure the height to the floor or to the bottom of the nearest window then apply the same measurerement outside. Chalk a line on the outside showing where the rim joist is.
